"The go-to place for any journalist reporting on climate change"
Fossil Free South Africa publishes updated Climate Reporting Guide for SA Media

Celebrated science writer Leonie Joubert has called our Climate Reporting Guide for SA Media “the go-to place for any journalist reporting on climate change”.
“The fact that I can quote your work means my job is infinitely easier. Thank you!” she said in a recent message.
The guide was launched in September last year. We recently added a few updates you may be interested in concerning developments internationally and in South Africa.
These updates are relevant to our government’s ongoing ambivalence about the value of renewables vs fossil fuels for a secure electricity supply.
The updates include:
Statistics on global warming from the most recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a synthesis of years of reports which the Guardian described as a “comprehensive review of human knowledge of the climate crisis.”
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ recent statement that deadlines for net-zero must be brought forward from 2050 to 2040 for rich nations, and to 2035 for developing countries.
Evidence that the global campaign for divestment from fossil fuels, of which Fossil Free South Africa is a part, is having a powerful impact.
A rebuttal, with concrete examples, of the misconception that the storage technology for renewable energy is inadequate for grid-scale power provision. In fact, it is already proving successful, and less expensive, than fossil fuels in countries including Australia and the United States.
Introducing Climate Visuals, a climate photography database.
Introducing Voices from the Frontlines, a platform representing data and analysis on current realities and future projections on climate mobility in Africa.
New contact details for experts journalists may wish to consult.
