Invitation: Join us for the launch of our revamped Planet A Investment Guide
Fossil Free SA has just finished a major update of our Planet A Investment Guide, and we’d love you to attend our Cape Town launch event
The Planet A Investment Guide is our answer to a question we’re often asked: “It’s all very well to lobby against funding of fossil-fuel companies, but what are the alternatives?”
Happily, there are a slowly growing number of options heading in the right direction, and we’ve been improving our guide to fossil fuel-free and sustainable investment funds available to South Africans annually since we first publicised it three years ago, with the feedback of some of our supporters.
The launch on October 2, from 6:30pm - 8pm, at the Old Biscuit Mill in Observatory. RSVP here; find the introductory handbook, which also outlines four steps towards sustainable investing, here, and find the full online guide here. (Please note access to the event venue is via stairs only.)
At the launch, you’ll meet some of the managers of the three locally developed funds we’re recommending and learn about their funds. You’ll also learn some of the context on ethical investing and meet like-minded investors.
We’re particularly grateful to local financial planner Brad McWalter, who has a deep and abiding interest in sustainability, and helped us refresh our list of possible available via local investment platforms. This has extended the number of funds our guide outlines.
Where possible, we’ve contacted the fund managers and conducted extensive online research to determine, to the best of our ability at this stage, the ethical profile of each fund.
If you’re interested in the guide, don’t forget to also sign a petition to your own existing asset manager on our #InvestFossilFree platform. This campaign is lobbying asset managers to offer fossil fuel-free funds so that we can all have the option to stop funding climate breakdown.
We’re sounding calm and cheerful here but – please believe us – there’s no time for this to be a gentle trend in the right direction; we’re in a planetary emergency situation and the complacency on this issue of most of South Africa’s asset managers – who are supposed to be responsible stewards of their clients’ financial futures – is a disgrace.
With that off our chests, we look forward to seeing you at the launch.
