Yesterday, Business Day published our oped explaining how the very fast-moving climate crisis is in fact turning out to be far worse than is realised even by many who fully acknowledge the crisis. 'Net zero by 2050' won't save us. Fossil fuel companies cannot be allowed to continue profiting from disaster capitalism – they must now be nationalised and decommissioned. We desperately need cuts of 50% of global emissions by 2050 to have even a chance of averting climate tipping points. Fossil gas is a bridge only to a already growing methane emergency alongside the CO2 emergency.
